How To Get Soft, Smooth Lips

Who doesn’t love soft, luscious lips! Lips are a prominent feature on your face and keeping them protected and nourished should be a priority in your daily routine. But to achieve that, you need to have a good lip care routine in place that prevents chapping.

The skin on your lips is slightly different than the rest of your body. It does not have as many sebaceous glands present as your face even if you have an oily skin type. And hence, your lips cannot moisturize themselves by producing their own oils. They dry out much faster as compared to the rest of your face and may even bleed if left unprotected.

Thus, protecting your lips from drying out is essential to keep them supple and soft.

If your lips too are persistently dry, chapped, and prone to bleeding, here are 3 key reasons responsible-

1. Lip Licking. Do you tend to lick your lips absentmindedly throughout the lips? This habit is actually dehydrating your lips instead of keeping them moist.

2. Harsh weather. Since there are no oil glands to retain moisture, your lips can become dry when the weather is too hot or cold. Air-conditioned rooms can especially suck out moisture from lips much faster and leave them chapped and dry.

3. Wearing Lipstick: Several lipsticks, especially matte, long-wear formulas tend to dry out your lips leaving them cracked and bleeding.

How To Get Rid Of Chapped Lips

Getting rid of dry, chapped lips is quite easy. If you follow this 2 step lip care routine regularly, you will have soft, luscious lips in no time.

Step 1: Exfoliation

Exfoliating will help remove dead skin from your lips. This seems like an unnecessary step but actually helps the moisturizers penetrate better into your lips. You can make your own DIY lip scrub with help of just 2 ingredients- sugar and coconut oil.

Mix the two ingredients together and apply them to your lips. And with gentle circular motions, keep scrubbing your lips for at least a minute.

Once done, you can wipe away the excess scrub and notice your lips turn extremely soft. You can repeat this step once a week for the best results.

Step 2: Lip Balm

Using the right lip balm plays a key role in treating dry, chapped lips. The emollients and moisturizers present in lip balm can form a protective barrier on top of your lips and prevent them from drying out.

So using a lip balm twice a day will help keep your lips soft and moisturized. When choosing a lip balm, try to avoid petrolatum-based lip balms and moisturizers. Instead, choose a lip balm made with natural butter and waxes as they are more sustainable and eco-friendly too.

Try Ma Sita’s Wild Sweet Orange and Sugar Cookie Lip balms that are made with nourishing organic ingredients like shea butter, olive oil, and raw beeswax to protect your lips and keep them soft and supple to touch all day long.
